The multi-location pharmacy Boone Drug is committed to improving the well-being of the communities it serves, including access to affordable medications – especially when customers pay the cash price.  

So, in 2023, Boone Drug worked with Prescryptive Health to launch a cash pricing program at four of its pharmacies. “We started on standard pricing with Prescryptive, but we needed more,” said Spencer Hodges, PharmD., Vice President of Boone Drug.  

Understanding the need for more customization with a cash pricing model, Prescryptive knew its AI Pricing solution would be a better fit for Boone Drug, and after some discussion, Boone Drug made the decision to try Prescryptive AI Pricing.  

“It’s a far superior model,” Hodges said. “It allows us to be much more consistent with our cash pricing. It’s a model we can really rely on – and not be penalized for processing claims unlike other popular savings programs that customers bring to our counter.”  

Hodges further commented that Boone Drug saw the impact of Prescryptive AI Pricing quickly. Just two weeks after the launch, there was a 25% uplift in gross margin per prescription. Three months later, at the start of 2024, the uplift in gross margin per prescription reached 37%.  

Hodges explained, “You get out of it what you put into it. Once we switched to Prescryptive AI Pricing, and we saw how well the model was working based on our requirements, we rolled it out globally to all 12 of our stores.” 

What’s more? The quick implementation: just one week.  

“I was impressed with how quickly we were able to get started,” Hodges remarked. “There are tweaks we continue to make to the model as we analyze the data, but it’s been invaluable to have Prescryptive AI Pricing.”
